Scotland’s Leading Psychedelic Treatment Clinic

We are Scotland’s very first psychedelic treatment centre, offering addiction and mental health treatment via ketamine-assisted therapy. Our team of experienced psychologists, anaesthetists, alongside our medical director and board, are proud to be at forefront of Scotland’s approach to ketamine based treatment.

Whether you need support easing deep-rooted depression, overcoming addictive patterns, managing ADHD or mood disorders, our ketamine treatment offers a unique approach built entirely on science-backed research and clinical trials. So, read on as we dive deeper into how ketamine therapy works, the types of results you could expect, and how this innovative solution is paving the way to brighter psychological health.

What is ketamine therapy and how does it work?

Evidence-based, controlled, and medically supervised, ketamine therapy is a fast-acting treatment for a range of mental health disorders. It uses a low-dose of ketamine to block NMDA-receptors and promote neuroplasticity, helping patients achieve a state of calm and reflection that benefits psychotherapy. It often provides relief for those who have previously been treatment-resistant.

What does the process look like?

Our ketamine-assisted therapy has six stages. Stages one and two are about understanding whether the treatment will be suitable and effective for your needs. The third and fourth stages are about defining and delivering your required treatment, while the final stages are all about reflection and using your newfound awareness to develop robust coping strategies and help achieve long-term relief from mental health issues.

1. Virtual assessment

Here, we’ll discuss your medical history, personal goals, and the challenges you face. It’s a two-way conversation, and it’s your chance to ask any questions or voice any concerns.

2. In-person psychiatric assessment

This stage requires a face-to-face meeting with one of our trained psychotherapists. Here, we’ll review your mental health history, discuss the benefits and risks of ketamine-assisted therapy, and evaluate any medications or treatments you are currently undergoing.

3. Psychotherapy preparation sessions

Healthcare professionals started to adopt ketamine as an “off-label” treatment for resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and certain forms of addiction.

4. Medically supervised dosing sessions

During four in-person sessions, you’ll receive a controlled ketamine dose. The session will continue with a brief check-in and grounding exercise, a discussion of your hopes and intentions for the session, and a therapy style discussion benefiting from the altered mental state provided by your low ketamine dose. This is often reported as a sense of calm and deep reflection.

5. Integration sessions

After the controlled dosing session, you’ll partake in this non-drug integration session. Here, you’ll discuss the insights and reactions that arose during your ketamine-assisted treatment, relating this experience to your treatment and everyday life, and developing strategies to transform that awareness into long-term change.

6. Evaluation session

This is the final-stage of your first ketamine-assisted journey. Led by your therapist, it’s a time to compare pre- and post-treatment assessments, measure changes in symptom intensity, and plan any future support you may need. That may be more ketamine-assisted therapy or simply supportive check-ins to build upon your progress.

Other services by Eulas Clinics

Ketamine therapy is not for everyone – whether that’s down to personal nervousness about the treatment or because our psychotherapists don’t see your circumstances as suitable. In this case, we’d recommend speaking to your GP or engaging with our other services. These include:

Stroboscopic Light Therapy

Stroboscopic light therapy is a non-drug treatment which achieves similarly altered consciousness to ketamine-assisted therapy. It centres on the use of a specialised light-emitting device that emits frequencies synchronised with your breathing and body movements.

By targeting specific brainwave frequencies, it can stimulate the production of neurotransmitters responsible for relaxation, creativity, and spiritual experience, creating the ideal environment and mental state for successful psychotherapy.

Breathwork Therapy

Understanding Breathwork Therapy

Another non-drug treatment, our breathwork therapy uses breathing exercises to help calm the nervous system, and have positive impact on heart rate variability and a wide range of anxiety symptoms. Modern breathwork therapy is built on centuries of breathwork evidence alongside more modern, science-backed clinical studies and meta-analyses.

Ketamine Treatment for Different Conditions

Though our focus is primarily on depression treatment, it’s worth noting that ketamine therapy can also benefit conditions such as:

  • Addiction: A major study is underway involving the use of ketamine therapy in battling drug and alcohol addiction after positive stage 1 and 2 results.
  • Anxiety Disorders: Potentially alleviating severe anxiety and panic symptoms.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Helping rewire traumatic thought patterns to facilitate a healthier emotional response.

A Journey Towards Hope

John (name changed for privacy), a 41-year-old man struggled with depression for over a decade. Traditional therapy techniques offered temporary relief and brief hope, but he struggled to break his depression. Feeling hopeless, John turned to ketamine therapy  as a last resort. Under the supervision of our specialists at Eulas Clinic, he underwent a series of low-dose ketamine infusions combined with therapy sessions. Over time, John noticed an improved mood, and an emerging sense of optimism. Today, he’s maintaining his healthy outlook on life, crediting the combined power of ketamine and ongoing therapeutic support for his newfound lease on life. While personal  experiences can differ, John’s journey illustrates how strategic ketamine use can become a game-changer for those battling long term depression.
